Sustainable Crediton Newsletter 167, May 2025

Welcome! It's always tricky deciding what to highlight when writing this introduction. However, two events coming along in May stand out.

On 8th of May, we have a presentation by Edward Mayer about swifts, and how they can be conserved. Has anyone spotted one yet? A bit early perhaps, but a Crediton summer wouldn't feel right without a swift screaming party circling above the Square.

On 20th May we continue our film programme with the showing of Power to the People. Tony Blair has recently intervened in the net zero debate, arguing for more emphasis on technological fixes such as carbon capture, and greater investment in nuclear power. Meanwhile, as our chosen film shows, people in Cornwall are rolling up their sleeves and finding practical ways of reducing our dependance on fossil fuels. There will be plenty of time after the film for discussion with our excellent panel, all of whom have hands on experience in the field of energy conservation / renewable energy.

We hope to see you at both of these events; and at our Bluebell Walk on 17 May. Phew!

Repair Cafe News

The Crediton Repair Café is now a fixed and valued event in our calendar: it runs successfully on the 4th Saturday of the month at the Elephant on the Green. But it was not always thus! Impressive support for our Tree Nursery
