Climate Action Team (CAT) - an explainer

28 July 2025

Ever wondered what Sustainable Crediton's Climate Action Team (CAT) is all about?  Well, read on.

We have four main areas of interest which you might like to know about and/or like to be involved with:

HOUSING & TRANSPORT
We are currently focussing our efforts on the proposed new housing estate to the south of Barnfield. In conjunction with the Town Council we held a very successful 'Community Conversation' in March this year where around 100 residents of Crediton and beyond came together to make their views known on the government's new Land Use Framework and its possible implications for the Barnfieid site. Subjects covered included housing 'quality', providing affordable and social housing for a variety of requirements and affordability, access to green spaces, nature recovery, access and so on.

ART
This group was formed with the intention of using art in all its forms to raise public awareness (and action) on the future effects of climate change. We have screened several films, followed by discussion sessions with local relevant 'experts' and plan to show more this coming winter. But we would like to do more!

BONIFACE TRAIL
This is the proposed cycle and walking trail from Crediton to Exeter and is part of our 'Active Travel' initiative taking place in and around Crediton. The route from Crediton to Newton St Cyres has largely been agreed but taking this through to Exeter still requires a lot of effort and thought.

CONNECTION WITH FARMERS
Food security, especially in the light of climate change, is an extremely important issue for us all making it all more important to make connections with our local farmers producing the food we all need. We are all doubtless aware of the carbon emission implications of bringing in food from far flung and even not so far flung places?

If you would like to get involved with any of our groups within CAT in local action on all aspects of climate change and sustainable living then please contact Alan Murray at: alan@murraydesign.co.uk

Or if you would like to get involved with any other of our sister groups within Sustainable Crediton such as the pollinator, tree or Community Larder then please contact us direct via the Contacts tab on our website:  sustainablecrediton.org.uk.

We very much look forward to hearing from you.
