The Green Deal

We have put together some information which explains what the Green Deal is all about. Essentially its is a long term loan (10 to 25-years) to undertake specific energy saving measures in home and is repaid through savings in your utility bills. Read much more on our Green Deal webpage.

25th September Low Carbon Lifestyle and Energy Efficiency Evening

We are planning to have two speakers giving talks on low carbon living and practical tips to make our homes more energy efficient and warm in the winter. The talks will take place at the Boniface Centre from 7pm on the 25th September.

The first confirmed speaker is Mukti Mitchell who sailed around Britain in a 6 month voyage in the revolutionary zero-emission Explorer Microyacht, to promote the benefits of low carbon living. The tour visited forty ports including Swansea, Liverpool, Glasgow, Edinburgh, Newcastle, London and Southampton, liaising with regional and national media to reach an audience of 12 million. His message is that low carbon lifestyles - a life that creates less carbon dioxide - is easy, fun, saves money and improves your quality of life. Mukti has written a book "The Guide to Low Carbon Lifestyles" which is downloadable free of charge.

The second speaker will be Brian Harper of Energy Tracers. Energy Tracers is a company that does thermal imaging surveys inside people's homes to identify draughts and areas of heat loss through poor insulation. They are working with other Transition organisations like us.

We are also planning to have DARE, the Devon Association of Renewable Energy present to offer general advice on energy efficiency.

Firewood from Hedgerows Group win Awards or All Grant

More next month, when we can publicise this award. However we have been granted a sum of money to enable some of the group to be trained on chainsaw use and all the group on hedge-laying. The group will be meeting some time in May to make plans to use the grant, seek permission to coppice some woodland and plan next winters activities. If you are interested in joining the group, please contact Charles via info@sustainablecrediton.org.uk

Heat Pumps

Several members have installed heat pumps through our Warm Homes Project. Here is an interesting blog about key things to consider before installing a heat pump.
