Petition on food waste

19 April 2016

During the winter Sustainable Crediton food group members spent several hours asking people in Crediton if they would sign a petition about food waste. The petition was to go to local supermarkets asking them to: reduce waste in their stores, to be willing to sell 'wonky veg' to reduce waste on farms, to treat farmers fairly and to make good food that might be wasted available to people who need it.

On behalf of the 250 people who signed the petition (and, judging by the very positive response to it, given more time there would have been far more signatories) Sustainable Crediton members have started discussions with supermarkets. After a very useful meeting, Morrisons has suggested a 'forum' of local people to discuss food waste further. If anyone would like to take part in this, please contact the food group.

Further progress will be reported once other supermarkets have been visited
