Biscuit wrappers profit the Crediton Food Bank

31 October 2013

The McVities Biscuit Wrapper Collection organised by the Waste Action Group over the past few months closed at the  beginning of October and proved a great success. A total of £66 was raised which is being donated to the Crediton Food Bank.

Used wrappers were collected at the groups' regular plastic collections during the summer and at a number of outlets in the town. In total, well over 6lbs in weight (2.8 kilos) of waste plastic biscuit wrappers were collected and sent off for recycling. Thats an awful lot of biscuits! In fact the group came 15th overall in the UK in terms of the size of our collection, and this contributed an extra £20 to the sum raised by the wrappers.

A company called Terracycle are recycling the wrappers into a variety of useful plastic items such as plant pots, garden benches, waste bins and garden pavers. To find out more about Terracycle's work check them out on the terracycle website.
