Waste Plastic Recycling to Continue in 2014

17 December 2013

Following the success of the Waste Action Group's plastic collections at Peck and Strong in the Lords Meadow Industrial Estate in Crediton during 2013 Sustainable Crediton has decided to continue with the bi-monthly collections for the whole of 2014.

The first collection of 2014 will be Saturday January 11th from 10am to 12.30pm at Peck and Strongs, next door but one to Eakers in Marsh Lane, and is a chance for you to recycle all the waste plastic generated by the Christmas and New Year festivities as well as any regular plastic waste.

The remaining dates for 2014 are as follows. Please put them into your diary or on your calendar now. The location and times will remain the same.

March 29th, May 31st , July 26th ,Sept 27th , Nov 29th

We ask you to note that this is a change to the pattern of the 2013 schedule as the collections will now be on the last Saturday of the relevant months.

To date Sustainable Crediton's Waste Action Group have collected over 7 tonnes of plastic which would otherwise have gone to landfill since the scheme started, which is a tremendous achievement. And not only that, but collections are growing, with spin off collections happening in Cheriton Fitzpaine for the past 6 months and now starting up in Sandford for a trial collection in January to co-incide with the Crediton dates.

So we have a request for you ... If you live in Morchard Bishop, Newton St Cyres, Yeoford, Shobrooke, Lapford or any of the other communities around Crediton and would like support to get a collection started in your area as part of this effort please do get in touch with us. Our aim is to make plastic recycling 'the norm' in the Crediton area and to set an excellent example in 2014 for the whole of Mid Devon to follow.

Peninsular Waste Savers (PWS) collect the plastic and transport to their depot at North Tawton where the plastic is sorted for recycling. They are key to our success as their services are provided for free, and we would not otherwise be able to deal with the huge volumes of plastic collected.
