North Tawton Plastic Recycling Continues

NORTH TAWTON RECYCLING PROJECT - Reducing landfill and promoting recycling

Our household plastic waste collection is held in the public car park, The Square, North Tawton, on the third Saturday of every month, 10am to 12 noon.

We have seven volunteers plus members of the Environmental Group, who all live in or around North Tawton. We run a split shift system during the winter months, and between two and four volunteers take turns attending the collections throughout the year to assist the public with their sorting. We take no plastic bottles as West Devon Borough Council already take these in their kerbside collections, and ever hopeful that they will come into line with neighbouring councils and start taking all household plastic very soon.

Our collections usually weigh in at around 100kg each month, and are taken away by Peninsular Waste, a local recycling company. Given the very light weight nature of the material this corresponds to a substantial amount that is saved from landfill every month. We are much encouraged by the people of North Tawton who are contributing so enthusiastically to the project.

We are always on the lookout for new volunteers, anyone who feels they would like to join the recycling team please phone 07929261047.

The next collection is on Saturday 18 February.
