Sustainable Crediton newsletter issue 134, April 2022

Welcome to our newsletter, and a special welcome to our new subscribers. I hope there is something here which attracts you and with which you would like to be involved: if so, we would love to hear from you!

After two difficult years, we are finding new energy and enjoying an influx of enthusiastic new members; a big thanks to all and in particular those who involved in the food larder and community allotment projects.

The food larder project is doing a great job of minimising food waste in and around Crediton. Which has set me thinking about the tradition of saying grace before eating. It seems that we increasingly take for granted the food on our tables, with little thought for the earth which supports its production. So perhaps it's time to revive the tradition of saying a grace. Here's a suggestion which anyone could use:

'Give thanks to the Mother Earth,
Give thanks to the Father Sun,
Give thanks to the plants in the garden,
Where the Mother and Father are one'

With best wishes from Sustainable Crediton, John Craythorne - newsletter editor

“The UK has now used the levels of resources it should consume in an entire year if it were to be ecologically self-sufficient. In 1961 it was 9 July, but this year it falls on Easter Sunday.”
