Happy New Year 2015 to all Sustainable Crediton Supporters!

The New Year is all about making resolutions. Would you like to get more involved in our activities? In this newsletter we have a number of specific opportunities for people to volunteer and help us.

Pop Up Shop

In February we will have our Give and Take Pop Up Shop on Crediton High St (opp Boots) from 6th to 21st of the month. Everthing on display in the shop will be FREE to take away! There is an article below which explains all about it. If you would like to help in the shop during the two weeks we would also love to have you. It will take a lot of people to keep it covered for the full 13 days we plan to be open, so if you can spare a few hours to help out it would be very useful.  Please let us know by contacting Esther on esthermann174@yahoo.co.uk as soon as possible

Core Group Vacancies

We have three vacancies on our Core Group for a Publicity person, a secretary and a general Core Group member. The Core Group meets no more than once a month for a couple of hours and supports the work of our Action Groups. Details of the publicity position are outlined below and the duties of the Core Group members are explained in our Constitution. If you would like to take up any of these roles please contact John Skrine.

Time Shifting Electricity Consumption

One individual thing everyone could do is explained in the major article below How to close power stations easily, cheaply and with no loss of comfort. If we all time-shifted 14% of our peak electrical consumption, about 350 watts per household, away from the period between 3-8pm on winter weekdays,we would need seven fewer large power stations. That's seven coal or gas power stations we could close without the need for replacement. We can do this with minimal loss of convenience by delaying the use of power hungry appliances such as vacuum cleaners, dishwashers, washing machines and tumble driers into off-peak times, and by fitting time switches to our immersion heaters, for those who have them.

Action Group Sessions

Our Waste, Energy, Hedgerow Groups all have meetings this month, whilst the Hearts and Minds Group have taster sessions on Mindfulness scheduled for January and February. I promise you that you will get a warm welcome if you did want to come along. Just contact the relevant group co-ordinator, details are on the website.

Events

On the 31st January we have our first waste plastic collection of the year at Peck & Strong, Lords Meadow from 10am to 12:30pm. On the 21st February we have the Seed Share at the Old Town Hall from 11am to 2pm. This year there will be live entertainment from the Woodsmen.
